Grivel Air Tech EVO
A technical 12-point crampon with no tools adjustment, suitable for routes with rock and ice.
The Air Tech has been designed for ascents with both rock and ice making it great for Mixed terrain. It has 12 short steel points, 8 of which are front and 4 rear. The position of the points is designed to keep the foot steady during ascents, descents and traverses. Similar to the G12, but with shorter points, making it easier and more comfortable to use as a walking crampon, yet still suitable for mountaineering and lower grade snow and ice climbs. Being lighter will very much appeal to high altitude mountaineers.
It adapts to any type of boot thanks to the regulation bar in the middle and to the several binding systems, Cramp-O-Matic EVO, New-Matic EVO, New-Classic EVO. Equipped with the famous Grivel proactive Antibott both in the front and the rear. Easy to store in the backpack and not bulky. Perfect adherence, excellent companion for activities in the mountains.
The three binding systems available are as follows and all come equipped with Antibott/anti-balling plates included:
- New-Classic: Superb all encasing basket system that means that you can put this crampon on just about anything that is B2 rated or above and it is supplied with a flexi-bar rather than a rigid one, making it more suitable for walking.
- New-Matic: Semi step-in with Grivel's excellent plastic toe cap and fairly rigid bar - but will will fit only on semi-rigid B2 or B3 walking boots, with a step in on the heel.
- Cramp-o-Matic: Full step-in with a wire front bail and fairly rigid bar. It's quick to put on in a blizzard and feels more rigid and secure than the other bindings, but you do have to get them on just right - rigid boots only. Designed to a fit B3 Mountaineering Boots.
Important Note. The Evo model has a few changes over the previous version:
- New heel lever is lighter and has only one moving part (as opposed to five) but still adjusts to all suitable boots.
- The webbing tape is narrower (12mm as opposed to 14mm) and lighter.
- The buckle has been redesigned to be lighter and more compact but still give a strong hold.
