Scarpa Vapour Lace
Dubbed to be North Wales' top climbing shoe. by us...
Based around the same last of the previous yellow Vapour lace the new Blue has several improvements and seemingly only aesthetic down sides. The main improvement is the new rubber toe box, the clearly visible yellow rubber patch is plenty stretchy enough to allow your knuckles some room whilst still keeping tension at a very useful level. They have also taken the quite often overly stern heel band and released the tight point on your achilles by joining the heel band either side of the tendon.
At the moment we don't have an official blurb from Scarpa but the toe edge seems to be reinforced for a little extra stiffness. Not to the point where you can't smear easily but enough to support you through small holds in comfort. That paired with the Vibram XS Edge rubber gives the Vapour Lace a very nice feel on small holds, excellent for spending longer on a route, wiggling in gear and working sequences.
Sizing: For a tight fit go down one to half a euro size. Snug but longer routes will only need your street shoe size for wider feet and half down for narrow feet.
