Swing Arcus RS Lite

If you're after a lightweight vol-biv wing that has performance and stability, this has to be one to consider. The RAST system really giving it an edge over other wings in this category, especially when you consider that most vol-biv action takes place in the mountains. A gem of a wing following in the footsteps of its full weight sibling.

The ARCUS RS Lite is the weight-optimised version of the popular Arcus RS.

With a combination of 32 and 27g fabrics, and a weight-saving design for the interior, it is aimed at bivvy pilots, safety-conscious hike & fly and XC pilots, as well as globe-trotters who are looking for a versatile glider which is lightweight and has a small pack volume.

The ARCUS RS Lite is up to 1.100g lighter and, by using the RAST system, it loses none of its reactiveness and accuracy, but retains its stability and performance which would otherwise only be achieved by many cells.

Combined with the Connect Reverse 2 convertible harness and the Escape rescue device, you have all the equipment needed for everyday use with an overall weight starting from less than 9kg (ARCUS RS Lite XS in combination with Connect Reverse 2 M and Escape M) , which does not place any particular demands on pilots.

The name ARCUS is linked inseparably with SWING as a revolutionary paraglider design which has given many thousands of pilots safe access into our captivating sport.

Now the  NEW ARCUS RS LITE, with its particular features and stylish appearance joins this successful low-end B-tradition. Innovative and redesigned, it departs from the well-worn paths of paraglider development and provides completely new impetus for our sport by incorporating the unique new partition system known as RAST and the ARCUS RS LITE is an impressive example of how it operates.

Launching is easy and stress-free with RAST.

There are a number of advantages to this:

  1. The front part of the canopy fills very quickly, starting from the centre. This leads to the glider rising seamlessly and harmoniously without any tendency to overshoot.

  2. To date, there haven’t been any cases of our ARCUS RS LITE test pilots being launched unintentionally, even in strong thermal conditions.

  3. The middle of the glider will not collapse even if the take-off run is very impulsive, as the entire front half of the glider promptly fills with air.

  4. Any tendency to overshoot is significantly diminished even in a tailwind. There’s no longer any need for pilots to run after the paraglider downhill. Instead they can take some time for a controlled launch.

RAST means that the ARCUS RS LITE is pleasantly damped and extremely stable during flight

In turbulent air you can really feel the benefit of RAST, effectively stabilising the canopy and helping to calm the dynamics. This makes the ARCUS RS LITE extremely stable and forgiving, which also results in noticeably improved precision, comfort  and consequently better performance for the pilot. An additional feature of RAST is that, as wing loading increased, the relative benefits of the multi-chamber RAST system increases.

RAST effectively counters large-scale canopy deformation

ARCUS RS LITE with RAST ensures resistance to large-scale collapses. Frontal or asymmetric side collapses are extremely delayed or prevented, even without the pilot actively steering. If the glider ever does collapse, there is much less deformation of the paraglider because of the higher internal pressure in the canopy’s rear section, stopping collapses  from spreading right through to the trailing edge. The canopy reacts in a gentle and controlled manner and does not shoot forward much. Front stalls generally do not go beyond the integrated ‘wall’ and RAST also counters the unwelcome "rosette”. The air remaining in the wing reduces to an absolute minimum any tendency towards dangerous line-overs and the pilot thus maintains feedback through the brakes even in difficult situations. The extremely rapid re-inflation means that there is very little loss of altitude if there is any problem with canopy stability, as the canopy does not completely empty.

The trailing edge of the ARCUS RS LITE, stabilised with RAST, benefits the pilot in both thermaling and on cross-country flights:

- no loss of performance by setting up the trailing edge in rough thermals

- the response to brake input is precise and shows no delay

- total control and manoeuvrability in thermal updrafts

- markedly increasing control pressure before the stall point

- directional stability and efficiency of a level previously seen only in gliders with a higher classification and many cells or additional reinforcement

- above-average stability at maximum speed
