Quick Overview

Mammut 10mm Galaxy Dry Climbing Rope

In 1990 when Ben Moon did the first 8c+ (Ondra thinks 9a) in the world, Hubble, he used a Mammut Galaxy. Around that time it was the lightest rope of its type; not true anymore, but it is still easily our best selling single rope. The tension on the sheath is tight, making it a stiff handling rope, but also making it last and last and last. Galaxys normally still look quite new when other thicker ropes have become big fluffy caterpillars. A highly recommended classic.

The Galaxy has been suped up with the new DRY treatment.

DRY treatment from Mammut.

he Newest Chapter in the Galaxy rope is the DRY treatment process. Dry is Mammuts' Gold treatment this used on their highest performing ropes. Each individual strand of the core is given the Coating finish and a thermal treatment before it is bound in the sheath, which is then treated after braiding. This means water and dirt that penetrates the sheath won't be absorbed or retained. Before this style of treatment a wet untreated rope would only take 46% of the UIAA falls it would have whist dry. With the new DRY treatment, a rope that has been submersed in water for 15minutes with take 80% of the falls. A huge difference if you ask me. Dry treated ropes only absorb 1% on a test as apposed to Protect (just sheath) absorbing 36% and Classic (non treated) 46%  -tests done by the UIAA.
