The Zap-O-mat is a great belay semi-auto braking system. As with all devices proper training is required before full usage.
Before I bought this device I scoured the net/YouTube for a video on how it works and there's only a crappy German video which doesn't help at all.
Since I bought this device, I have used many times indoor for training purposes. as it says - 8.9mm to 10.5mm, but I found it works proficiently with 9.2mm rope. set-up is easy as the engraved pictures tell you where the climber and dead rope are positioned.
People have seen the device and look afraid as the front part is plastic but I assure you its strong enough.
As with everything it does have bad points - the green compressible button on the front can be locked but when the rope is locked after a fall/lower off it is difficult to press all the way in to lock off. Releasing the rope after a fall can be tricky as you need to push the front of the device down whilst always holding the dead rope which can be a bit jarring but nothing serious.
I am in the process of making a new English video for this and will post on here when its done if people want to buy this they'll know how to use this great piece of gear.
I hope more people will buy this device as it pays rope out smoothly for good training sessions.
Cheers
Phil
