DMM 4CU Size 1.5
This classic design may have been slightly surpassed by the top of the range units like Dragons or C4s but it is still an excellent cam with a lot going for it (not least of which, the startlingly good price!).
For a start the 4CU compares well on the weight front – a full set (minus the intermediate 1.25 and 1.75 sizes) comes to only 1138g. That’s 9 cams, up to a mighty size 4, for just over 1 kg!
It also handles nicely and the trigger bar can be manipulated with one finger if necessary – something which can be quite useful when stretching for a deep placement.
It has a solid, stable feel – the trigger wires certainly last longer than conventional single stem designs.
The U-shaped clipping point allows for high clipping, aid manoeuvres and offers an extra clip in point on belays.
The extendable Dyneema sling allows you to travel light and use less quickdraws, it also offsets any ‘walking’ issues resulting from the stiffer stem.
Each cam is rated to 14kN in the active, working position with the extendable sling doubled, and 12kN with sling fully extended. The passive strength of the cams, resting on the cam stops, is 10kN.
